Hi bward,
I had all sorts of answers to your question, but then I read the title and the paragraph together a few times, and then understood, that I didn't understand a bit of it.
Can you reword it again, as to exactly what you were asking (for an old guy that gets confused easy, thanks!), along with some system specs (specific vid card, distro, etc). Thanks, Bob sends

I haven't personnally tried it yet but my understanding is that the new 3.2 branch now compiles on the devel kernel but useability and/or performance is not there yet.
...i.e. the 3.2 introduced a performance drop by themselves and they don't enable 3d accel, under 2.6, even if they compile .

Also, what could be a better alternative, Gentoo has modified a 2.9.13 pkg to compile on 2.6.
You can get it here , it's basically modified .c files to replace the originals in your /fglrx/build_mod dir.
I think they also have the full driver [...separate kernel module and binary files pkgs] including their mod but I lost the link.

I have a FireGL Cad Card, When I put my one PC together I went to the ATI site and they have the Drivers for the CAD boards and also if you call them in Canada they will give you another number to contact there CAD group and they will tell you what Kernel you need. I have mine setup with Red Hat 8.0 and pulled the drivers down and that was the end of.
Now one thing I did notice is that before I unzipped the drivers for install the O/S will pick the board up as a radeon 9700 I think it was. I also asked about compatabilty when I talk to them and gave them my motherboard info.

I should have been more clear i realize.

I was referring to compiling the firegl drivers with the 2.5 branch of the kernel.
