Post Find USB devices location.

Hello Folks.
I have an iPod 8GB 4G and When I plugged it into my Linux Box it is mounted automatically and location is "afc://XXXXX" but when I use "lsusb" or"mount" command to find location it not show any useful information!!!

mohsen@jj:~$ sudo lsusb
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 8087:8000 Intel Corp.
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 8087:8008 Intel Corp.
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 021: ID 05ac:129e Apple, Inc. iPod Touch 4.Gen
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

As you see it detected Apple device but what is location? I mean is "/dev/sdXX". How can I find it?

Cheers.

lsusb shows USB information. If you want to see disk partitions do

Code:
cat /proc/partitions

Your ipod is being accessed by a special virtual file system (gvfs-afc) from the file browser and isn't mounted in the usual manner so there isn't a /dev/sdx device ID.

A special directory might be created in your home directory ~/.gvfs/xxxx which is the same xxx as what you saw in the file browser. ~/ is terminal shortcut for your home directory and the . in front of the gvfs means the directory is hidden.

I assume sr0 is your DVD/CDROM drive.

You can backup your device using itunes. There is a linux tool called ipodpatcher that can backup your firmware. I do not know how well it works or if it can backup all models. There might be other utilities available.
