fedora cant detect ethrnet card pci 10/100

i have an exernal ethernet card that is not in the mother board but put seperately.
i have its driver i faced numerous problems installing it...
1.it asked for compiling of .c file got after unzipping but there was error reorted when tried gcc;
2.installation read me says that it supports kernel 2.4/2.5 v and i have 2.6
3.since the .c file is not compiling no configuration fil is got.
4.on more trying it showed device not found.......

please reply
spending sleepness nights due to this.....

Are you talking about a usb ethernet adapter?

Those are the only external ethernet devices I know of, Laz.

There were a few firewire ones a few years ago and there is always new stuff coming out.
