Question Errors installing CentOS 7 and 6.6 from USB boot loader

Hello,
I am trying to install CentOS 7 on my MacBook Pro with Yosemite with a USB following this method.

Everything goes smoothly - I have reFIND, boot the Anaconda installer, and then I get to the point where you click 'begin Installation'. Once it gets to a certain point ('Installing packages' or something like that in the second installation screen) I always get the same 'An unexpected error has occurred' window along with many Python errors. I tried installing in different variations (minimal, graphics development) as well as in safe mode with the same result. See image (sorry for the bad photo).

I've also tried different partition types with the same problem. I found another post with the solution that I'm supposed to append dmraid -r -E /dev/sda somewhere, but I'm not sure where, and I don't want to delete my other OS and information. I even downloaded CentOS 6.6 to see if that worked, but my Mac won't read the USB when I reboot it if I do that.

Any help would be much appreciated!

The screenshot seems to say "no such package hfsplus-tools". Can you check whether it is on that USB drive, and if not can you add it?

HFS+ is the Mac's filesystem, and the Centos installer feels forced to install the package that allows access to it.

Thanks for your reply, berndbausch. Should I add that file using the dd command that I used to put the image inside the USB via terminal? Or is there another way? Also, where do I find HFS+? Sorry if this is too basic, I'm a noob when it comes to the subject.

A bug was filed for this or a similar problem: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=7585.

To add the hfs-tools package, you would have to
  • find it, and if it doesn't exist, create it. Most likely, a dummy package containing nothing would be sufficient, since you probably don't really need the package except for satisfying a formal dependency.
  • add the package to the ISO file you use
Both would require a steep learning curve for a self-described newbie.

I can't tell where the requirement for a nonexistent (or perhaps it does exist?) package comes from. You might be lucky with a different version of reFind, or a different ISO. Are other distros than Centos supported? Is there a forum dedicated to reFind? You might get better answers there.

Thank you, yes, this is all a bit confusing to me. The problem from that bug report seems to be similar to mine, but I have no idea how to reproduce their solution. Like I said, I tried a different ISO (CentOS 6.6) but my laptop wouldn't read the USB. And I don't think the problem comes from reFind since I can boot the USB using Alt/Option after restarting as well, with the same problem

Thanks again for your suggestions.
