Energy Sistem MP 4 Player - Compatible with Ubuntu 14.04?

I have an Energy Sistem (yes, correct spelling) Series 3 MP4 Player which I had thought I'd established was 'compatible' with my laptop's 14.04LTS OS.

When plugged in it (at first) would accept transfers of music etc and I could make new folders etc. However when I tried to delete or amend folders or files Ubuntu tells me they are Read-only.

Christophe GRENIER and his very nice TestDisk have been as helpful as they possibly can be but I suspect that the real problem is one of basic incompatibility.

fdisk output for this device is:- Disk /dev/sdd: 8455 MB, 8455454720 bytes 256 heads, 63 sectors/track, 255 cylinders, total 4128640 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 2048 = 2048 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 2048 bytes / 2048 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 2048 bytes / 2048 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00000000

Filesystem is shown as BBT, a Google search mentions 'Xenix BBT',can anyone tell me what this means? –

Latest is that the device now shows 'Empty Disk' when switched on - how that happened I have absolutely no idea.

As the device is not responding I asked EnergySistem for their comments and help. I suggested that perhaps the MP4 player might need it's firmware reinstalled; their reply was sadly somewhat as expected, it can only be reinstalled via Windows!

I'm sure it's consisdered 'bad form' to reply to one's own thread/post; but if it helps to get this comment noticed, then I?ll do so.

My request for help was met with a stunned silence here although I'm sure many subscribers MUST have known that the answer is embedded in Ubuntu (14.04 for sure, maybe in other distros) in the shape of the excellent Disks application, available 'at a click' from Dash.

Having found this, purely by accident, by means of a Firefox search I will add the URL to help others:-
