emerge from CD-rom

Hey,
i have recently installed Gentoo from CD. I do not have a fast internet connection, so I wish to install XFCE from the packages cd.

When I "emerge xfce" i get told that the computer is trying to download from the internet. How do i tell it to get the files from the cdrom?

thanks for you help, in advance.

Rich

it's the tarballs you have no the cd yes? in that case just edit /etc/make.conf and change the distfiles directory to the mounted path on the cdrom. i'm not familiar with gentoo cdroms really as i have a 1mbps connection just let it do it properly!

I agree that using the net is far better, but us poor students can't afford
that!!

Anyway, this is how we did it:

#cp /mnt/cdrom/* /usr/portage/distfiles/
#export PKGDIR="/mnt/cdrom"
#USE="bindist" emerge --usepkg -a gnome

I restored to Gnome, given that Xfce didn't want to work !

Thanks

so why did you ask? if you have solved a problem within 20 minutes of first posting a question, maybe you should have percevired a little longer before asking for help. thanks
