I'm in the market for a DVD Burner. After consulting the dvd+rw-tools page, I am planning on purchasing a Pioneer DVR-107 and burning my data to DVD-R's. I am mostly going to use this device for making backups by the way.
My question to you is, am I on the right path? This *appears* to be the most popular way to go.
I have a Sony DRU-500AX and make the Images with xcdroast and burn DVD+RW with dvd+rw-tools, burn DVD-R direclty with xcdroast should work, but I never tried it.
Be warned: Some times, the old game "Burner dont take any blank CD" reemerge, but now with DVD's.
So my Sony burns only media from Sony, other may work but often just causes errors...
Most internal DVD burners will work under Linux.
At my company, we use a Sony DRU-530A and it works well.
We also have an external DVD burner (USB 2.0 and FireWire), but this one doesn't work.
My guess is that the USB 2.0 is not well supported.
Plus, under windows, it only burns at 1X.
So, as long as you get an internal DVD burner, there should be no problem.
If you are looking for a graphical interface, I really like K3b.
But if you plan on burning alot of DVDs, you may be better off writting a script.
