DVD Burner ide or usb?

last weekend I bought an external dvd burner and it works great but when installing distros from the dvd it is slooow.so I'm guessing that usb2.0 is not as fast as an ide channel?

If this is true would a usb hd be noticeably slower than an ide hd?

Thanks

Yes, USB uses Serial communication while IDE uses Parallel which is faster because it transfers many bits of data at one time.

yeah instead of using ide drives use sata. They are faster anyways. You can configure them as RAID if you wish

will the speed of the sata hd be comparable to the ide hd or does this depend on the quality of the hd purchased?

Thanks

the overall connection is faster than ide and pretty much any sata will beat a ide. Even a very low quality one. Technically i guess you could make a slower one but not likely. Also all of the larger harddrives come with sata not ide.
