Disabling onboard lan in ubuntu hardy heron


i easily find how-tos in disabling onboard sound card but i cant find any how-tos on disabling onboard lan? how can i do that? thank you.

when you logged in, go to the "system" menu, then "system administration" (or something similar, "Systemverwaltung" in german), and click on "network".
there you should be able to enable and disable the network devices
does this help?

it worked. but the two ethernet adapter is enabled at the same time. when im attempting to disable the onboard lan and enable the pci lan they are both enabled at the same time. i am looking for disabling via console what i did in disabling my onboard sound card. thank you anyway

i think you'll know how to do this (you didn't ask), but here i suggest how to do it, just in case:
if want to do it via console, issue the command "su" to get the super-user (=root) privileges;
then do "ifconfig -a" to see what interfaces there are;
next, figure out which is the onboard device and which is the pci card;
now do "ifconfig down 'device'" while 'device' is the interface name (something like eth0, eth1, wlan0, ...)

if you want the on board LAN disabled permanently go into your motherboard BIOS and disable it there..
