Hi,

Could someone please tell me how to switch from Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro to Msi 7600GT the right way? My xorg.conf says driver is "ati" and direct rendering is on. How do I change this so that I can boot my KDE with 7600GT? No need for 3D at the moment, I just want to boot with KDE .

Edit: found a solution myself. Here's what I did:

1. Changed the new videocard and booted Debian. KDE won't start, but I just logged myself in the terminal
2. su, and wrote my password
3. dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and went through the default settings, BUT I let it find my videodriver by itself. It couldn't so I was able to select "Vesa".
4. Set all the rest to defaults and exit
5. wrote reboot (maybe "/etc/init.d/kdm start" could work here too?)
6. KDE starts with weird resolution, you can fix this by installing nvidia's drivers
