Question Debian Buster and brand new GDDR6 PCIe 4.0 Graphics card

So let me say firstly that the graphics card works. BUT it is clearly and poorly underperforming.

Here's the card's title from where I bought it:
GIGABYTE Radeon RX 5500 XT DirectX 12 GV-R55XTGAMING OC-8GD 8GB 128-Bit GDDR6 PCI Express 4.0 x16 ATX Video Card

Here's a link to where I bought it:
https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-rade...82E16814932236

To my knowledge this card is very new and that's probably why there might not be good support for its hardware.

The problem I'm having is that when I start up a game on steam (namely Warband Mount and Blade which is quite an old game), the game works but the graphics are very choppy and there is a slight lag. It's obvious to anyone who sees the gameplay that the graphics card is underperforming in a major way...

I updated and installed new drivers and I also upgraded my linux kernel from 4.19 to 5.6 (Debian Buster) but still it seems like nothing has changed.

I made another previous thread that I'm going to mark solved because I misunderstood what the real problem was and mislabeled it.

Any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated!

Assuming you have followed this wiki: https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo as far as set up?

Could be the card is too new and driver support isn't there yet. I have an older AMD card (RX570) so can't speak to anything newer than mine.

A newer kernel only provides a newer kernel driver. You're probably running now on the amdgpu DDX, which dates to Buster's release. You can try uninstalling xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu, which should switch to the default DDX, modesetting, on next X restart. If the modesetting DDX doesn't work, or not good enough, next to try is installing xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu from backports. Possibly you may need Mesa from backports as well. In any event, you should be sharing some info:
Code:
inxi -SGxx
pastebinit /var/log/Xorg.0.log
so that we can see what diagnostics are indicative of what is happening compared to what should happen. If /var/log/Xorg.0.log does not exist, do instead:
Code:
inxi -SGxx
pastebinit .local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log
Pastebinit is for uploading large files. When run it provides a URL to paste here along with pasting output from inxi, which should be done using code tags ( # above the input window).

Arct1c_f0x

Since you have very new hardware, have you thought of upgrading your kernel?

Arct1c_f0x, how new is the card exactly? Meaning when it came out, not date of purchase.
When was the current Debian stable (buster) released?
With these two numbers, do the math.

Backported kernel & drivers might help.

This is a link to the original post I made about this problem before I knew what the real problem was. The solution that I reached was that my graphics card was so new that the debian buster driver support isn't yet operational and so I had to switch to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and everything is working fine now.

Here's the link to the thread where I reached the solution
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...st-4175679432/

I'm going to go ahead and mark this thread SOLVED.
