D-link DI-804HV

I have a VPN router (DI-804HV) that is currently only acting as a switch because an old celeron PC is doing the routing. This worked well but my PC has become very unstable recently (i'm guessing it has to do with motherboard/RAM). It is definitely not worth the time and money to try and repair it. Besides, I always wanted to get rid of the noise and heat.
So, I'm investigating if it is possible to install Linux on the dlink router? The reason for this is that the original firmware is incompatible with DSL connections (no support for assymmetric speeds), and there are quite a few interresting linux distros for firewalls these days.

I found this one:http://linuxdevices.com/articles/AT5572978370.html
quite interresting and the hardware could possibly be very similar (minus the radio, of course).

Does anyone have experience with this?
