Exclamation Configuring Dlink Router on FC3

Hi ,

The purpose of this post is to configure a DLink Router on Fedora core 3 through a lan card.

Things i have done.
Installed my lan card.
Assigned a ip address and its gateway which is the router in this case. But still when i hit a site using a browser i am not able to get it nor am i able to ping it. The strangest of all things is i am able to connect to the router using telnet and also ping the router.

I have this system on dual boot. In windows i just had to create a network connection and keep it on DHCP. i tried the same using the system-network-config but i wasnt able get a ip address assigned on boot up then ended up giving a fixed ip and gateway for this machine.

Let me know what can i do to get my internet working using this router.

Thanks in advance..

If you can ping the router but not access sites it sounds like a DNS problem. Try this URL from that machine and see if it works.

http://64.233.187.99/

Try putting this in your /etc/resolv.conf, you might need to restart the network service.
Code:
nameserver <ip_of_your_router>
search
Obviously putting your routers IP in there

The nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf is for Domain Name Servers or DNS. Check your router's information on DNS. You should have at least three DNS addresses.

i am able to access the webpage when i give http://64.233.187.99/ successfully ..
but i am not able to access the page when i give http://google.com. the browsers says looking up for google.com and finally times out.

My resolv.conf has the nameserver entries and i am able to successfully ping the server using the domain name.

Kindly suggest me how can i resolve this issue. I am using Fedora Core 3

Thanks in advance.
