cloning a sata drive

I have a Dell SC440 server with 2 sata drives..I would like to backup the drives and restore them to a new Dell SC440 server with the same configuration using bare - metal install.
Tried using norton ghost 3 but got errors during restore.
Can anybody suggest a linux program that could do the job..
thanks

cp -a is great.

mkdir /image

cd /

cp -a /bin /boot /dev/ etc ... (skip proc/sys) /image/

mkdir -p /image/sys /image/proc

tar -czvf drive_image.tar.gz image/

I used G4L (http://freshmeat.net/redir/g4l/48238...2.devel.tar.gz)
to backup an image and store it in another server..I boot the new machines using the bootcd and with G4L, i restored the images. So far it works fine. This is similar to Norton Ghost(tm) no relation though..
Again , thanks for your replies.
