Characters Stopped Echoing to the Screen

During an operation in Centos a STDERR occurred and now I can't see what I type except in VIM. I cannot just reboot the server because of a RAID issue. I'm trying to save data before replacing a non-hot swapable drive.

How can I restore screen echoe without rebooting? I have searched and searched and searched without an answer.

try entering 'reset' this should set the console/terminal back to sane defaults
