Changing MAC & hostid

How do I change my MAC address under SuSE 10.0?

I've searched around and tried:

Quote:
ifdown eth0
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:01:02:03:04:05
ifup eth0
I get the error message:
Quote:
ERROR: No configuration file found for eth0
Once I get the above working, where do I put these command lines to get the MAC automatically changed upon bootup?

Also, what is hostid based on, and can I change it to any arbitrary value?

Thanks.
