Unhappy Cannot install nvidia 1.0-8178 display driver (newbie)

I have only recently installed Red Hat Linux 9. So far I have installed Motherboard drivers (NFORCE-Linux-x86-1.0-0310-pkg1.run) without any problems, but I cannot install the display driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8178-pkg1.run). When I run the pervious file with "sh" in the command-line console (Ctrl+Alt+F2), the installer informs me that X Server is running and that I must exit X Server before trying again.

Someone please help.

in command line console type
Code:
init 3
to go into runlevel 3, (cat /etc/inittab) for an explanation

Code:
init 5
to get back into X

If these commands dont work in Fedora check out the /etc/inittab file and you shuold be able to figure out what to do, it is a matter of changing a 5 to a 3 in one of the top lines of the file and is explained within the file.
