Can't use CD Drive on Laptop

I recently installed Linux (Ubuntu Hardy) on a laptop. Everything is running great, except for the CD. I would have expected an automount, but I can't even manually mount it.

When I try to mount it, I get the message "No Medium Found".

In fstab, the device is defined as

/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,exec,utf8 0 0

lsmod shows that I do have a cdrom driver

cdrecord --scanbus shows

scsibus1
1,0,0 100) 'HL-DT-ST' 'RW/DVD GCC-4244N' 'GW01' Removable CD-ROM

Any and all help appreciated
Thanks much
---Michael

Do you know if the drive actually works - can you boot from it, did it work OK before you loaded Linux?

Yes, it worked great before. I used that drive to install Linux.

MSatterwhite, look maybe in your fstab it's name is wrong. Try to find how it has been detected by using dmesg.
Try to use something like CD-ROM or the name of your CD device.
for me works the string
Code:
dmesg | grep cd-rom
After that you can see the name of the CD-ROM device, and would be able to mount it easily.

I ran the dmesg command, but I don't see anything that could be used in a mount command. Here's the output of dmesg:

[ 28.379422] scsi 1:0:0:0: CD-ROM PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D 1.06 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 30.391785] Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
[ 30.391852] sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0

Then try
Code:
mount /dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom
If it doesn't work, try to use the notation you put in the fist post:
Code:
mount /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom
But don't forget to put a CD in there
if it doesn't work, show me what output give you the commands
