Can't mount mp3 player

I have an mp3 player which I used to mount via /dev/sda1 but since I've switched to Gentoo /dev/sda1 doesn't exit which I can only assume is because I'm using devfs. The computer picks up the device as a USB storage device when I plug it in I just don't know how to mount it now. Someone mentioned something about looking in /dev/scsi but there's nothing in there.

Any ideas?

Try loading usb-storage module (via modprobe) before connecting. It should then be mountable as sda.
You can also try dmesg after inserting to see if you device has been recognized.

I have. usb-storage is loaded and when I run dmesg it picks it up fine but there's still no sda devices.

Thanks for the reply but I'd already sorted it. Stupid really, I forgot to add SCSI support in my kernel *duh!*
