can't get sound on thinkpad 600

Hi

I can't get the sound to work om my Thinkad 600.

It's a crystal sound chip and windows NT says the following regarding it (well I translated from swedish so NT doesn't really say IO)

IO = 0530-0537
IO = 0388-038B
IO = 0280-0293
IRQ = 7
DMA = 03
DMA = 00

So when I tried to insmod the cs4232 (I heard that's the module to use) with:
Code:
insmod cs4232 io=0x530 irq=7 dma=3 dma2=0
it first said stuff about undefined symbol or something, so I insmoded the modules that were needed, and when that's done I get

Using /lib/modules/2.4.29/kernel/drivers/sound/cs4232.o.gz
/lib/modules/2.4.29/kernel/drivers/sound/cs4232.o.gz: init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.29/kernel/drivers/sound/cs4232.o.gz: Hint: insmod errors can be caused
by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO and IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output of dmesg.

When this is done I get an extra line from dmesg:

cs4232: set synthio and synthirq to use the wavefront facilities

What should I do?

You might try a different module.

I have a 770x and had to use a different module to what lspci reported the chip as (haven't used for ages, so can't remember exactly).

Have a look here, there are a number of 600s described. Some of them seem to be using alsa (snd-cs46xx).

actually, lspci didn't find my sound card so I just used the information I got from windows and http://www.linux-on-laptops.comn (didn't get what chip set it was from windows though).

Okay, so I'll try some other modules. But except for maybe the module's wrong, is the other parameters to insmod correct?

From what I've seen, they look reasonable. Note that some modules attempt auto-detection, so may not need any parameters at all.
