Can't Get Freecom Classic USB HD to Work With With Knoppix

I have a Freecom Classic 25GB eternal USB hard drive, formatted for FAT32. I want to mount it under Knoppix 3.9.

In response to plugging in the device, dmesg gives:

usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
ub: cmd #1 cmd status (-104)
uba: device 4 capacity nsec 0 bsize 512

lsusb gives:

Bus 004 Device 002: ID 046d:c01b Logitech, Inc. MX310 Optical Mouse
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 03f0:0004 Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 895c
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 07ab:fccd Freecom Technologies
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

less /proc/scsi/scsi gives:

Attached devices

uname -a gives:
Linux Knoppix 2.6.11 #2 SMP Thu May 26 20:53:11 CEST 2005 i686 GNU/Linux

As far as I uderstand, it should look like a SCSI device, which can be mounted in the usual way with mnt. However there are no SCI devices visible in /proc/scsi. What should I try next? Thanks in advance.
