Can't find the first harddrive under 2.6.7
I finally got 2.6.7 to compile on my Alpha LX164(had to set CPU type to Generic to do it, which I didn't expect), and every time I boot, VFS complains that it can't open sda2(which is the root partition). Just up above that, where's it loading my three SCSI drives, it doesn't see the first one. It'll hang when trying to grab it, fail, and say it's disabled for now. Under my original 2.2.20 kernel, all drives are found just fine. All the drive IDs are set correctly, all relevant drivers are compiled into the kernel, as well as all relevant file system types. One thing of note, is that under 2.2.20 kernel, it lists my / mount at fs type 'unknown'. I know that it's ext2, as does fstab. I don't know if that has anything to do with the drive problem at all(doesn't seem like it should), but does anyone know why it says that?
[Edit] More info...the system detects only one of my harddrives, which is a Compaq SCSI at ID 2. It then detects ID 5 as a harddrive, but ID 5 is a CD drive(using a different cable, a 50pin...the disk drives are on a 68pin, both from same controller). It doesn't detect an identical Compaq drive at ID 1, nor a Segate drive at ID 0. The only error I see before the screen moves too fast is 'scsi: Device offlined: not ready after error recovery'. Is there a log somewhere that I can view that is saved even when the system can't finish booting?
