Buy an eMachines?

I am looking to buy a new desktop to dual boot WinXP and either Fedora or Suse. eMachines seems to have excellent prices on some reasonable PCs, but of course I'm a bit wary of such a good deal. Does anybody have experience with eMachines and Linux? Is there anything I should know about before buying one? For that matter, are there any issues with the Windows side of things?

I'm also still open to recomendations at this point if anybody happens to know of a better manufacturer with similar prices.

Thanks for the help,
Jeff

Emachines are cheap and nasty. Very nasty. A neighbour's kid has one that I get to service. I made it dual boot XP& Slack10. Works okay even with a wifi link to my broadband.
Mobo was a very cheap issue from Titec (Imperial) or somesuch company...generally nasty but functioning okay.

This one had a MX440 card and it's less than a year old -nvidia driver had it working as fast as it goes but it's not enough to run games with.

Onboard sound worked fine with Alsa...it was Intel based I think..certainly a Celeron chip.

The flat screen that came with it is merely adequate...you'd get a much better picture from a cheaper CRT.

To be honest, you'd probably get a better deal on ebay or in your local for sale adds...always someone that wants to get rid of last years hardware.

I've heard that new stuff from them is pretty good. They seem to have great looking stuff at nice prices...at least now.
