Boot error

I have a slight problem with a the boot up process. Whenever I have my Ext USB drive plugged into my boot always hangs for a period of time. After it tries to load whatever it is trying it says:

sda: assuming drive cache: writethrough
sda: assuming drive cache: writethrough

Anyway to not have this happe or to not have it cause the boot process to hang other than not having the USB plugged in at boot?

All help appreciated

Do you have the 'hotplug' and the 'usb-storage' modules in the /etc/modules list?
Also, is fstab set up correctly?

Hi,

Do you have an operating system on the external USB drive? check your Boot options in your BIOS.

I added both "hotplug" and "usb-storage" to /etc/modules and it did not help the siuation. Still the same hang at boot. I also checked my BIOS and it says it loading usb at boot.

Hi,

Are you trying to boot an operating system from the USB? you may need to add a MBR there.

Hi,

If your not using the USB device to boot up, turn off that feature in the BIOS to 'disabled'.

That should work..i think
