on some old socket 7 machines HP had a setting in bios to send bios back to original state.
never quite understood why but this was 1998 when they did that.

Hii everyone..

I changed the BIOS battery and the computer is working fine now.. Thanks a lot everyone.. All you people are really helpful!!!
