What is the best laptop filesystem? I mean it's not for a laptop, but for an external hdd with heating problems (if i leave it on too long it corrupts itself). I've tried fat32 and ext3 to no avail, right now it's running pretty well with ext2. Are there any filesystems that can make it spin less and stuff like that so i can get the most out of it? Thanks.
i'm not sure if it's a heating problem, but when transfering 33 gigs it always freezes at 15-20, corrupting the drive, but if i do it 5 gig at a time i get no problems. Ext2 seems to be helping. Anyway since it's only my backup and video drive i don't need to have it on much. I read in another post that ext2 was the best system for laptops, because they keep it cooler and if i'm not psychotic or something i think it has helped. I really don't want speed, just less spinning and freshness overall, but i do 20 meg/sec average and 50 meg/sec peaks with ext2 and it is just fine. I wanted to take it apart to see if i could test it and such, but it's a pain in the ass case and the only way i can do that is loosing the guarantee and i don't want to do that. Gonna get smart set up tommorrow, thanks.
