Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Best Chassis for < $ 100

Hi everybody,

I have just started to build my little server / workstation. The mainboard with its 3 Ghz Prescott is working great. All the other stuff i already have. All i need now is a good, high-quality, but cheap chassis.

I will probably open the chassis frequently, move it around alot and the computer will probably run about 20-24 hours a day. An Air-Filter would be appreciated, as well as good air flow and ventilation.

I found that 19 inch rack mount chassis were most likely the best to suite my needs, even though i don't have a rack (yet?).

I live close to Fry's Electronic (the best electronics and computer store i know, in America and Europe!) Fry's sells a 19 inch rack mountable case for 90. It can be found here.

I am a little concerned about the front cover and its hinge, though. I don't want it to break, when it is just hanging freely in the air, when opened.

Do you have any other sources for, or testimonials about these type of cases? do they have any major disadvantages over towers?

Thanks

I'm not realy familiar with rack mount cases, but I do have a question. Why do you want a rank mount case if you have no rack? Why not just use a PC case? If you intend to be inside the case frequently, it would seem easier to go with a standard ATX PC case. Your airflow CAN be better in a PC case and would be less noise as well. Rack mount chassis aren't designed to be opened frequently nor are the designed to be quiet. Just my 2 cents...
