Bas news for slmodem users

Smart Link PC Modem Products
Conexant Systems acquired Smart Link's PC Modem chipset business in 2005. As a result of this acquisition, all Smart Link PC Modem products, including SL2800, SmartRISER series, SmartPCI series and SmartUSB series solutions have been transferred to Conexant. To obtain product support and updated modem drivers on any of these products, please contact Conexant through www.conexant.com. (Linuxant).

So, slmodem driver is not free any more.

that's no longer new to me. i already gave my windoze modem just because of those commercial drivers.

Edit: just curious.. why aren't there other groups from the open source community that are trying to build drivers just the way linuxant do?
