automatic shutdown of Mandrake 9.2 (sometimes works sometimes not)

I've got following problem: when I want to shut off Mandrake 9.2.
I works sometimes but sometimes I end up with final screen.
I've got Celeron 466. Power of the hard drives seems to be off but the power supply fan is working. I don't know what's the problem. What does it depend on?. I made researches into this and it's very common problem.
Resolution can be found on Microsoft page. Seems that ACPI driver must be reinstalled but ... It's written also that that problem should not appear in Kernels up from 2.4.* and there's no driver for it. So what can be done about it?.
Thanks for help.

are u running apm or acpi? ur supposed to run only one of the two.
and u can do this by editing your grub.conf or lilo.conf depending on which u use.
