Question ATA 133Hard drive help needed

Hi,

I recently purchased a MSI KT3 Ultra 2 MB and Maxtor 40 gig ata133 capable hard drive. I'm having all sorts of problems installing RH 7.3. Install never finishes. I believe it might be due to the fact that my version kernel (2.4.18-3) doesn't support ata133 or 100.

My question is- is there anything I can do to get this system running at the highest speed possible? Even if it is ata66.

What settings should I set in the BIOS?

Also, I'm using 2700 DDR memory. Can this be causing an issue also?

Thanks for any advise,

Vince

Memory shouldn't be an issue, and if it found the drive at all it must have had the drivers necessary for your ATA100/133 card, the problem is never with the drives, just the interface. There were also some issues with mobo southbridges that aren't fixed until 2.4.19.

The most important part, is where does it go kazoo during the install?

I also tried looking it up at MSI but their page gave mickey mouse info, so I'm working on the manual... which is downloading snailish.

Cheers,

Finegan

Thumbs up

Finegan,

Thanks for the effort. Any info would be great.

It crashed during the package installs. but, I got it on this time by shutting down and removing all unnessecary peripherals, like USBs, NIC and audio. I did a text install, but I don't think that made too much difference. I think video and USB was sharing IRQ 11.

Now, I'm seeing only half my RAM, about 130meg. I have 256 2700 DDR. Any idea?

I guess a kernel rebuild would help w/ the ATA133 issue?

Thanks again,

Vince
