Assistance needed with Tape Drive install

Hi All.
I am a total newbie.
I have attached an HP SDLT 320 tape drive to a linux server running RH AS 3.0.
I can see the tape drive during boot up but am totally lost on how to use it with in the OS. What do I have to do to see the drive and use it with Linux. I am eventually going to do some backing up with Tivoli Storage Manager and in the process of learning that as well.

I best clarify a couple of things. I have a library connected to this server with two tape drives. One drive has been in use and the other has just been added. Most configs have been done from command line. I have not seen any gui tools for managing the tape drives. Do you recommend the tape tools anyway?
