Anyone familiar with fftv? Will not launch.

Hello forum,

I have installed fftv 8.3 from the tarball. When I attempt to launch it, it will prompt me to select a TV system (US broadcast). Then it will die (disappears from the desktop). I don't seem to see any error messages in the terminal window as you can see below.

I have three capture cards installed in hopes of getting the best software/hardware combination for video capture - TV Wonder Pro (cx23880, uses /dev/video0), Turtle Beach (cx23880, uses /dev/video1)), and WinTV 150 (cx23416, uses /dev/video2).

I can't find a way to get fftv to try a different video device, it always uses /dev/video0. I have even used v4l-conf to change it but fftv still uses video0. I'm hoping fftv might launch if I could get it to use a different video device. If I use fftv --help in a terminal window, no help is displayed. Fftv seems like it would be a supurb video capture program by looking at the screenshots if only I could get it to work.

1) Does anybody know how to get fftv to use a different video device?
2) Does anybody know how I might get fftv to launch using ANY video device?
3) Is ffmpeg included with fftv or do I have to install it separately?
4) The documentation mentions using "export FFTV_DISP_GRAB=" if you have trouble with overlay mode but I don't know how to use it, or if it is even necessary.

I will certaintly appreciate any help I may get.

Roy
