I seem to have a pretty terrible buzzing sound at all times nomatter what I do coming from the sound jonly under linux. This buzz isnt there in XP at all.
I have even unloaded all of my modules and the buzzing sound is still there.
Only guessing - WINXP the microphone input is muted by default. Check your Slackware o see if the mic input is muted.
I had a similar problem that I used to get a whine thru my speakers when my HDD spun up. I was told this was caused by an electrial difference and I had feedback thru the speakers. Changing the brand of speakers fixed that fault. I suspect if this was happening in yoyr case you would get with both OS
Intergrated sound always has problems with noise because the power supply that motherboard manufactures is near ok to power the processor, chipset, and other components on the motherboard. You can do what noodlenz said but that may not fix it. You can try to mute line in, cd audio, and other inputs that the intergrate sound has. You can try USB audio like stereo link. If you have the money, use shielded audio cable.
