I'm planning to acquire a new computer.
I'd like to invest in a new AMD quadcore CPU, but I'm not sure, which main boards are compatible with them.
All I can tell by looking at the main board specifications, is that they're compatible with dual core processors.
Will a dual core ready main board be compatible with a quadcore?
Any suggestions?
Is there anything else I should remember, concerning the compatibility with quad core CPUs?
Check out the motherboard vendors' websites and search for AMD and quad-core. I had no problem finding listings at ASUS. No doubt there are similar listings at othere vendors' sites.
You really need to wait this one out. The boards that support AMD quad-core processors (Asus included) have been going though additional revisions because things aren't working right.
I have more experience with the Opterons than the Phenoms, but I expect both are in about the same position. Look at them again in April or May when AMD really brings out their new line of products.
