Advice on best wireless ethernet card to install in CentOS 4.4?

I need to install a PCI wireless ethernet card in the text version of CentOS 4.4 not the GUI version. What card is the easiest to setup for. An autodetect on bootup is what I am aiming for. I've been pulling my hair out for days with D-LINK AirPlus DWL-G520Wireless PCI Adapter (rev.b)and had about enough with the install this and install that and configure this and that help guides that really don't help at all but add a ton of useless files on the hard drive.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated as I need this to further the original project I was working on before I ran into this glitch.

Thanks,

Dan.

It's not so much the manufacturer that matters, but the chipset they use.
I'm using Intel 2200BG. It was properly detected at install time, and works flawlessly.

That said, I expect we can get your card to work.
What is the output of lspci -v with the (card plugged in) that refers to your wireless card?

And welcome to LQ!

Thanks,
CentOS 4.4 is quite old, I think they are up to 5.1 now. Newer versions generally have better hardware support, and will have security patches applied. You can download a live CD of centos 5.1 here http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=04760 It might be worth running that to see if it'll pick up your card.

Otherwise it looks as though you'll have to use madwifi to get that card working. Here are a couple of links for you:

Good luck
