Adaptec 2100S RAID-controller problems on Debian Etch

I'm installing debian etch, and I have experienced some problems after
the first boot. I get a message about bad superblock, and the
proposed e2fsck -b 8193 only repeated the message about bad
superblock.

When I use a LiveCD to format the disks, and then install etch,
I'm not getting the superblock message.

apt-get update && upgrade installs new kernel form security.
The required reboot results in a new superblock message.

From dmesg I can read:

Adapter 00000012: TID 0000:[HPC*]:PCI 1: Bus 1 Device 22 Function 0
i2o: iop0: Controller added
SCSI subsystem initialized
Loading Adaptec I2O RAID: Version 2.4 Build 5go

My card is an Adeptec 2100S, but lspci is listing 2000S ?

Any good suggestions?

Interesting.. they don't have that version on their web page for either the 2100S or the 2000S... The highest version they have posted is the 1.62

Did someone flash the card with the wrong BIOS ?

What is the Firmware version ? it should be separate from the BIOS version..
