A little confused about ATI driver for rage Mobility

I recently installed Flightgear and found that it ran appallingly slow. I know very little about linux, and even less about linux video drivers. Is there something I need to do to my driver, or should this be on the flightgear forum instead?

My xorg.conf has this to say about the video card:

Section "Device"
identifier "Generic Video Card"
boardname "ATI Rage Mobility P"
busid "PCI:1:0:0"
driver "ati"
screen 0
vendorname "ATI"
option "MergedFB" "off"
EndSection

and this:

Section "device" #
identifier "device1"
boardname "ATI Rage Mobility P"
busid "PCI:1:0:0"
driver "ati"
screen 1
vendorname "ATI"
option "MergedFB" "off"
EndSection

Thanks.

That looks perfectly sound. What do you get if you run

glxinfo | grep direct

If it says "no", then the driver isn't properly installed.

You can also run glxgears to find out how many fps you are getting.

Note: you need to install mesa-utils first.
