I dont have a clue about your display, except it happened to me once and I fixed it using 1024x768 resolution, device VESA Framebuffer, and a randomly picked moniter
. For your sound, try
#alsamixer
and look to see if there is an 'm' on the top of each channel, like this:

if there is, unmute it (see alsamixer man page) and turn up the volumes.
then do 'alsactl store'
if there isnt, then try configuring your sound.....
and for your mouse wheel, press it down and its mouse button 2, its not supposed to be able to scroll............
