3WARE 9650SE What order does it find drives?

Running Centos 7, SuperMicro X8DTU, 3Ware raid

Machine has 4 ports with sata's in them set to
raid 0 each.

It is finding port 2,3 before 0,1 and trying to boot /dev/sda off of port 2. That drive is damaged
and won't boot, I need it to boot off port 0
as expected.

How do I get the machine to stop booting off an unbootable drive (used to be bootable) and boot off the proper bootable drive?

What determines what order the 3ware card finds the drives? It says on the boot screen that it has
found them in order 2,3,0,1 which is useless as it now tries to boot off the first drive. The remanents of an old grub may still be on that drive, but it isn't bootable.

I wish to examine the drive in port 2 with a running system, as the rescue disk won't touch it.

Thanks in advance,

Open the case and remove the drive.

If you have data on that drive do a backup first than remove the drive.

I can't help you with RAID so you'll have to wait for a member with RAID experience.

Thanks for writing.

Unfortunately I need to have the bad drive in the machine so I can analyze it with
the working operating system CentOS 7. The OS works fine without the drive, but the
drive usurps the boot to itself and thus the machine won't boot.

Is Centos installed on the bad drive?

Did you install Centos to the MBR? If not than installing Centos to the MBR of a drive that is not bad will ensure the it will boot on it's own.

I'm not sure what else you can use if the rescue disk isn't working.

Maybe try recovery tools that are on the installation disk and see if that helps.

Also try S.M.A.R.T. to diagnose the HDD to see if it's done for.

What was the last few things you did before you think the drive went south?
