Right. my question is concerning cd drives:

Im using 2 - a dvd reader only as my primary ide

The first drive is picked up in slackware as a cd reader only.
I obviously want it to be detected as a dvd reader.

My second drive (Teac cd writer) id not detected at all.

Hi.

There's no difference between CD and DVD drives as far as Linux is concerned - DVDs use the same filesystems as CDs, so don't worry about it.

Is your second drive detected by your motherboard? It may be present as /dev/hdb already. Try mounting /dev/hdb with 'mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdb /folder/to/mount/into'
