Question 128 GB limit

I have installed Debian 3.0r4 [Woody] and noticed that the
Code:
cfdisk
utility only sees 128 GB of my 160 GB (153 GB, actually) hard drive.

I suppose this is because the 2.4 version of the kernel, which I use, does not suport 48-bit addressing.

My question:
Does the kernel 2.6 [used with Sarge] support 48-bit addressing? Will it see my entire hard disk?

I have searched LQ but have found conflicting answers.

Thanks.

hi,

I have 200 gb disk and my 2.6 kernel on suse9.3 recognizes without a problem. I cant see a reason that it will not except if there is a bug with debian.

If the default kernel is not compiled with support for it, you can always compile your own, have a look at:

Thanks for your answers.
I just tried on my own and installed Sarge with the 'linux26' flavor (for getting a 2.6 series kernel ). It recognised all the 160GB in my HDD w/o any problem.
