Hi,
I've been using SSD for quite a while now. Sure the cost was not the best when I purchased the first drive(s).
New build(s) for me on the horizon therefore looking all over the place for information.
Tom's Hardware has been one very good source for information. Current:
Best SSDs For The Money: October 2011
has been very useful with comparable information without delving into manufacture spec sheets;
My one big surprise was that 'Walmart.com' is referenced as a purchase source for some SSD.
I think 'OCZ Agility' series is a fair SSD for the price and capacity. If I configure the SSD for boot only then a Intel 20GB will suit or for a few more bucks the Intel 60GB and use a big hybrid for data.
I'll be experimenting with several new motherboard(s) so advantages for the SSD will allow me to port to other bench systems reliably. Cost for mechanical hybrids are falling so implementing long term data is doable at a fair cost/GB. I'm ordering sample Motherboards to use and compare the new 'UEFI BIOS' as related to Gnu/Linux. Key & Firmware facility for alternate OS is very doable. I'm not going to sample netbooks or laptops at the moment. I've got several Laptops & one Netbook to work with but these hardware are committed for support.
For my selections the 'Intel & OCZ' SSD provide good performance at a fair price for a user. Especially with both using first-gen SandForce(proven) at the chosen capacities.
Of course I will be using
Slackware LEET as the Gnu/Linux.
For you none Slackers that will be
Slackware 13.37.
