i'm running slackware 10 and i just did a fresh install(excluding the version of xfce that comes with slackware)... i compiled and installed XFCE 4.2 beta and i didn't have any errors, but how do i get XFCE(or any new desktop that i install, for that matter) to show up when i do an "xwmconfig" so i can set it as my default desktop?

You've got to add it to your $HOME/.xinitrc file.
Issue and read "man xwmconfig" for details.
