I am trying to change my screens refresh rate from 60hz to 75

I have searched the forums and have some ideas.
I take it the only way to change my refresh rate is by manually entering the modeline into the etc/x11/XFConfig file ? am i right?

well firstly where do i enter it? there are a fair few monitor sections! which one do i put it into?

what is the XF86Config-4 file? how is it different from the XF86Config file? i have both these files (they both have monitor sections)

i need to fix this refresh rate thing soon (people are acussing me of smoking something, my eyes are so red!)

the xf86config-4 file is for xfree version 4.x , the other is for version 3.3.x.
most distros have a config tool to save you from having to handedit modelines, or you can enter xf86config from the prompt

Keep in mind though that Slackware still uses just XF86Config without the "-4" at the end for its default config file with version 4 or earlier. Its mainly a Redhat, Mandrake and such type change. But there is really no difference between the two, its just the name of the file.

If i run xf86config from the prompt, what do i answer for the proceeding mouse questions (i have a usb mouse)

one more question, why do i have both version 4 and the previous version installed? (did i select this somewhere?)

Considering i have both files which should i edit ? (to adjust my refresh rate)

If your using Redhat 7.2, most likely its the XF86Config-4. And it might be easier for you to configure it by using Xconfigurator instead of xf86config.
