wildcard SSL - dedicated IP

When using wildcard SSL for subdomains, does each subdomains need dedicated IP or can they share the same IP used by the mail domain?

SSL by nature requires that each separate domain have a separate IP -- it won't work right using the same certificate for multiple VirtualHosts.

It will work, but the browser will always say that the site has certificate problems.
