Question Wierdness with screen savers

I'm not sure if this is a problem or not, but when I run a screen saver in Gnome, it is exceptionally slow. I'm on an Athlon 900 with a Geforce2, so that's not the problem. It gets like a whopping 3 frames a second.
Is that just how the program is done, to save CPU cycles? or is that a wierd hardware thing? I'm not sure if I've got something set up wrong or it's just wierd like that.
If it's wierd, where can I get my hands on some cool screen savers that are fluid and don't make my machine look like a 486?

Hey now, 486s aren't that bad. Luckly I managed to get 586 though.
