why is rpm better than debian package format?

Hi everyone,

I was reading Linux Format a few minutes ago. They have an article in May 2011 (LXF144) issue called, 16 Thing We Would Change About Ubuntu.

One suggestion mentioned is that Ubuntu change from debian to rpm package format.

Could someone please tell me why rpm is better? I have only tried an rpm distro a couple of years ago with Mandriva and with a live-cd now-and-again. But, I never have used one long enough to experience why it might be better.

Why is rpm better? Or, are those folks at LXF wrong?

thanks,
Wanting to be educated,
Randy

I think it's just a preference thing...I've used both apt based and rpm based and they do similar things

I, personally, am more comfortable with RPM...but I think it has to do with personal taste more than anything

I agree with above. It is all down to personal preference, I prefer dpkg (deb format) because the only time I have ever used RPM type distros everything turned into a disaster.

Thanks for the replies. I guess it would have been helpful for LXF to state why they think rpm is better.
