Why clamav is running by itself ?

Code:
$ ps -aux | grep clam
Warning: bad ps syntax, perhaps a bogus '-'? See http://procps.sf.net/faq.html
clamav 2411 90.4 6.9 40924 35752 ? Rs 18:48 7:05 /usr/sbin/clamd
Hello, there is nothing into my /etc/fstab of clamav, and I see with conky and top, that clamav is running a process that I have no idea what. My user is frenchn00b running xorg.

Why does it do that ?

thanks

It appears that clamav is running as a daemon (/usr/sbin/clamd). It would not show in /etc/fstab, which is a listing of mountable devices/filesystems.

Since clamd is a daemon process, it only runs when there is something to run on, such as incoming/outgoing mail.

Inspect your clamav configuration file(s) to see when clamd is supposed to wake up and do something.

Clamav basics

Hi

Clamd is the antivirus program that runs in the background. It is run by the user ClamAv which is automatically created by the install program and is normally nothing to worry about.

Clamd has nothing to do with your fstab file as it is a program and not a filesystem.
