Which distro do you recommend? For OLD laptop...

Hey'ya guys. Just picked up an old laptop for free.

It's a Pentium 1
133 mhz
w/ 1.4 gb HD

What are the good, lightweight, relatively user friendly (in terms of hardware detection) distros out there? Thanks in advance...

Any of them will work. Just use a lighter or light weight desktop like fluxbox or XFce, etc.

try slackware or puppy.
Slackware you might have to play around with, it requires quite a lot of space unless you select package by package what you want.
Puppy is quite easy to use and it has only a few MB. The nasty part is it has few packages specifically for it, it's hard to set up user accounts and many usual features are missing.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all your replies ppls, I tried about every single mini distro in the book

Finally, Puppy Linux worked best for me. I would've really liked Xubuntu but the hardware was way too old to support it. I tried DSL & DSL-N but the ethernet card just wouldn't work- probably noob woes...

So, for all people who have a junk ol' Toshiba Satellite Pro 445 CDX laptop Pentium 133mhz to spare, go for Puppy linux...
