What to do with .c file?

I downloaded a program to test for vulnerabilities on other computers on the network and it came as a .c file.
What do I do with that file? I can open it with vi and it's obvious that it's a program, but I have no clue how to run it, or what command to use to compile it.
Thanks!

Please *post* your errors instead of talking *about* them.

Sorry about that, i'm running Opera and I couldn't get them to paste.
The errors were saying that protocol.h didn't exist in the directory the .c file was pointing to, I edited the file with the correct location and it worked fine.
Thanks for you help
